Writer’s Idea Box: trimerics

If you like playing with words just for fun, this is the exercise for you! Trimerics are verses written in a certain form and using the repetition of lines within the poem to create a kind of litany or song poem (my definition).

In this writing exercise, I ask writers to think of a relationship with a person or animal they have loved (or hated) and to explore that relationship using the form. Of course, writers may choose to write about other kinds of relationships like those with nature, organizations, or communities. OR!

Writers may wish to write a whole bunch of trimerics about multiple kinds of relationships.

I love writing in this form and in other forms that are similar, using repetition as a prominent literary device to move the poem along. I hope you love it as much as I do.

Enjoy!
