The above paintings are three from my “beyond boundaries” series. They adorn my home and bring me great joy. They live in my living room, in my studio, and in my bedroom. And though the originals are not for sale, they have been published in print and online, and they have shown in shows, in galleries, in coffee shops, and in a downtown San Antonio iconic hotel. They represent a time of great awakening and transition for me. Here is my artist statement about the work:
It has been my life’s work to find my own voice, to come to my own concept of the Divine, to come to know my Intuitive Self. My art provides a venue for dialogue with that self and, through this communion; I explore and express the experience of womanhood, especially in its relationship to the cycles and seasons of the natural world; to fertility and conception; to birthing and surrender; to decay and regeneration. It is often profound sorrow; distressful unrest; urgent desire that brings me to the altar of my writing and my art. It is then, not without struggle that I begin a settling inward, a quiet listening, have a sense of relinquishing, of becoming radically receptive.

collage: re-purposeful series
In this series, I created collages using re-purposed papers with pins and thread, often deconstructing pieces of my own art, using saved greeting cards and trash-mail pieces plus paint, ink, oil pastel, and other art papers. Clients have who own one of these pieces of tiny art display them on bookshelves or on a desktop to brighten their days and remind them that they are loved and surrounded by Great Spirit manifested in these tiny creations.
ambrosial hours series
During this series, I (mostly) sat in my bed upright with a lap-desk and my pens and inks, working on small pieces of watercolor paper because, well, I couldn’t sleep. Here is my artist’s statement about that time in my life:
In the yogic tradition, the ambrosial hours (at dusk and pre-dawn) are considered a time of magic that enhances the possibility of connection to the divine. Practitioners are encouraged to rise, pre-dawn & “drink” from these hours during meditation.
In Greek mythology, ambrosia was the food of the gods.
“Yoga” is a Sanskrit word meaning “union.”
I am often awake and unable to sleep in the very late night & predawn hours. So, I decided to use these sleepless times as my own idiosyncratic form of yoga, making these paintings, allowing image to emerge out of my intention to unite with the divine. These, therefore, are a visual record of that experience.
These pieces qualify as “tiny art.” They are 3X3″, 6X6″ and 12X12″ and are especially perfect for small spaces, sitting on an easel on a bookshelf or on a desktop (unframed). These pieces do not require a frame but can be framed or hung by the attached thread if the piece is hanging. Each piece is imbued with the meditative quality of yoga, or “union with the divine,” and thus carries that energy with it, blessing your home or work space with the qualities of the divine: peace, harmony, joy, love, balance and more.
