Self Portrait (7), Amrita Sher-Gil, 1930, From the collection of:
National Gallery of Modern, New Delhi
lean in
-d.ellis phelps
i’ll whisper some
sweet secret
-each one a lie a promise
& jangle the bracelets i wear
in your burning ears
nibble there too
my long black hair
-velvet veil
falling over my shoulders
-your breasts as we kiss
~
you say i am wrong
to love a woman
tell me
indolent neophyte
how can you suck
such sour juice
from this sweet fruit

Wow
Heh heh. Thanks Joan.
Stunning, effective, poetry, all leading up to superb last words. That verse really impressed..and pressed.
Thank you!
Indeed. Let’s stuff this in a drone and drop it on the White House …
I was hoping some would catch the social commentary. I’m so glad you did.
Beautiful flow. What a fantastically powerful ending.
Thank you Ali!
Such a great flow, beautiful imagery, and so powerful.
I agree with Brendan, though I doubt they’d understand.
Thank you, Merril for these kind words and for introducing me to the dVerse community!
The fact of misunderstanding and hating what we do not understand is the entire problem, alongside greed, of course.
You’re very welcome, d.
Yes, you’re right, and stirring up the hate helps those greedy for power.
Your question says it all. How indeed. Powerful poeming.
Thank you, Lisa.
You’re welcome.
Yes… to even have to say this has to be a social commentary is perplexing, but this is where we are.
True. As a human race, we are showing some of our worst traits at this time in history. And, thankfully, many are developing innovative technologies, establishing sustainability standards, and keeping equity policies in place in spite of federal missteps to remove such things.
Wow, indeed! What we don’t understand, we hate.
Thanks for writing this powerful verse to the mini-prompt.
Thank you. Peace to us all.
